Hurricanes
This is an enhanced picture of Hurricane Floyd from NASA. The counterclockwise rotation of a low-pressure weather system is very obvious in hurricanes. You can also see the cloud tops in this picture, which shows how the atmosphere has high and low points. These monstrous storms are similar to the low-pressure areas that bring rain to the Midwest. Warm seawater feeds moisture into the hurricane and the winds become ferocious. We will look closer at hurricanes in a later lesson, for now note the rotation of the storm. Every hurricane in the Northern Hemisphere will have this counterclockwise rotation.
