Types of Weather Conditions

The following are examples of weather conditions that you may commonly observe. Of course, there are many other types of weather conditions that we will cover throughout the weather scouts program.

Partly Cloudy is a term that you hear often, but did you realize it is a weather condition. When less than half the sky is covered with clouds then its considered partly cloudly.

Lightning is a weather condition that can be very dangerous. It accompanies thunderstorms which are weather conditions as well.

Precipitation is what most people think about when refering to a weather condition. The type of precipitation that falls is very important, as well as the intensity. The picture to the right shows a moderate snowfall.

Precipitation can be in many forms such as rain, snow, sleet, and hail. We will learn about precipitation in detail in later lessons.

You can sense most weather conditions as you walk outside. Snow, wind, clouds and temperature are all weather conditions that will be fairly obvious. Barometric pressure and dew point are not quite as obvious but they are important weather conditions as well.
