Precipitation

Precipitation: It Waters The Lawn... It Dents Cars!

Precipitation is defined as any form of water particle, liquid or solid, which falls from the atmosphere and reaches the ground. This is where moisture for crops and plants comes from. All of the water we drink and all of the water in the lakes and rivers has fallen as precipitation at some point in time.

Death Valley, California

The amount of precipitation that falls in a region will have a drastic affect on the vegetation, animals and even the temperature of that region. Hardly any precipitation falls in Death Valley, California. Giant sand dunes are common in the desert but plants are scarce. Without water, plant life will not exist. Even cacti (that's two or more cactus) require moisture.

There are several types of precipitation. Most of us can identify these types already, but in this lesson you will learn about how these types are created.
